Enlisting and providing support

Questions you have with which your colleagues may be able to provide help and support

I’m having a hard time making the goals SMART goals. Does anyone have any pointers on making sure I am stating the goals correctly?

Resources and information you are seeking

I am seeking information on other schools to see if they have parent support groups. It will be helpful to know how other schools went about it and how they got started.

Resources and/or information you have found helpful and insightful

There were several internet websites that I found extremely helpful. The one that provided the most information about children with autism was Autism Speaks. There was a lot of valuable information about advocacy and plenty of resources for teachers and parents. There were also articles on the website, that could be printed out for the parent’s, with useful information.

  1. Christi,

I use the Autism Speaks website a lot and it is very helpful. I have three children with autism in my classroom and it is a challenge keeping up with them at times.

I am also having problem writing my SMART goals and cannot provide any additional help in that department but contact the professor and ask for help.

For a support group you might check with your local hospital or clinic to see if they have a support group for autism. Our local hospital has lots of support groups for various diseases and disorders.

    Good luck!

  2. Hi Kathy,
That is a great idea about contacting a hospital or clinic. I feel that support groups are extremely helpful especially when they involve children. Sometimes people don't have anyone to turn to for advice or just feel helpless. We all need to be there for each other and help out as much as possible. Thanks for the advice :)

  3. Hi Christy,

I understand about having a hard time making sure the goals were SMART goals too. Every time I thought that I had it right I had to re-do the goal. The only advice I can give for that is asking the professor. I am sure that there are support groups for parents and children with autism. I think Kathy is on the right track by suggesting the hospitals and clinic but doing a Google search would be great too. Every thing these days can be found on the Internet. Another thing is going to the schools that work with children with special needs. I am not sure where you live but where I live in Florida they have a school that is for children with special needs and I have even transported a child with autism to this school for the last child care center that I worked at, this might be a good place to find out if they have support groups for the families. Good luck.

  4. Christy it seems we both had the same problem with Smart goals. The suggestion Deborah offered is the best one. What I did was go back and take a look at the information on Smart goals and that made it a little more easy for me to understand. It spelled it out for me.

  5. Katrina-

I would like to thank you for your helpful comments and great advice that I received from you. During our discussion boards, I received some great advice from you and you also gave me some great ideas for resources that I can use. I did utilize the resources, and I believe that it made my Advocacy Action Plan better and more detailed. I wish you the best of luck, and I can tell that you will be great at whatever you decide to do, and I feel that you can be a great leader. Thanks again for all your help, and resources.

  6. Unfortunately there are a lot of AIDS/Herpes denials on Herbal cures still out there. I did research on them after I was tested HIV/Herpes positive I was so worried am I going to die soon. I continue my search again on herbal remedy for Std, then I found lots of testimony on how Dr Itua Herbal Medicine Cured HIV/Aids, Herpes Virus,Copd, Hepatitis, Diabetes, On websites sharing their testimonies, which made much more sense to me. All the authors pronounce Dr Itua As a man with Good Heart, I pick interest in their testimonies and I contact him about my situation then he gave me procedure how it works, I proceed after one week he courier his Herbal Medicine to me and instruct me on how to drink it for two weeks to cure. I receive His Herbal Medicine so I drank it for two weeks as I was told then after 2 days I go for a test I found out I was cured from HIV/Aids & Herpes Virus, I pay homage to him 2 months ago to his country to celebrate with him on his African festival which he told me it usually happens every year. I know there are lots of (HIV)/Aids&Herpes Virus denials of Herbal Remedy movement the same few doctors and they represent a very small faction of the community. I could have died because I refused Natural Herbs Cures for so long, but luckily, by the grace of God I am alive to tell my story.
